Rest now, my sweet Starlight, O Birdie, My Birdie

(This is a post about the loss of a pet, so you don't have to read this if such things bother you.)

I bear the burden and great sadness of the loss of a very dear, close friend today. My very first parakeet, Starlight, passed away last night while at the vet's receiving treatment for a very serious respiratory infection. She had been fighting it for two weeks with antibiotics but in the end she just wasn't strong enough.

As much as I might want to mourn her passing, I feel it is better to celebrate a life than to wallow in the pain such a loss inevitably brings forth. While the most dazzlingly brilliant light in my life has been snuffed out and has made everything else quite noticeably dimmer, it is that light itself of which I am compelled to speak.

Starlight, you are awesome. That little young bird who came into my life seven years ago and stole away the heart of a guarded old man. The being I was reluctant to meet only had to sit beside me at my computer once before melting this stony heart. So curious and so content to just be near someone for the companionship.

Starlight, my best friend. Even after you decided my shoulder was no longer interesting to perch on, even after you grew up, you never lost my unconditional love. Your personality was one of a kind. Fearless. Unstoppable. And what a sense of humor! She always liked people, too. She loved to chirp a hearty good morning to me the minute she'd see me, every day.

Starlight, my daughter. I may never have children but you were like my child and always will be. I am very sad and will miss you always. You should have outlived me by strides, yet because I am here still, I shall strive -- no matter how dark and difficult the path -- to honor your existence because of the wondrous journey we shared. To carry onward and experience the life you didn't have the chance to complete.

Starlito. Rest now. Ring every bell and chime one last time for me. Chuckle. Make that running water sound. Say "sweet birdie." And "what're you doing?" We will meet again one day when I am a more enlightened being. Will you walk or shall I fly?

Good night, Starlight.

Betcha didn't expect a new journal entry!

Surprise! I even have a deviation to accompany this journal.

3D accomplishments have slowed down quite a bit because I got distracted by making bots again (Furcadia NPCs, no you can't have one).

However, this week the 3D gears got spinning so fast I finally got something finished. A little break from subdivision modeling actually seemed to help. Step 1 of my character's outfit is complete: a simple longish skirt. No textures yet, but the edges and seams are in.

Onwards and upwards to the turtleneck!

A Little Update

A hearty hello to the two people who actually read my crappy journals, whoever you are. :)

Despite the lack of new deviations, my quest to become proficient in 3D is on-going. I'm working on some objects for one of the scenes rattling around inside my head. The progress is slow because I'm having to rework the design of the current object. I have created a logo for it and the very basic idea of the surrounding wall. Teases, I know, but when it starts to come together I think you'll like it.

Also, I started a fantasy sword. The blade is done but I want to get a hilt done before it's posted.

Here's a tip for the 3D uninitiated. For mechanical and other non-organic modeling, NURBS is a good alternative to polygon modeling, especially if you like simple but precise control over your object. However, if you're modeling organic objects (people, clothing, trees, what have you), prevent early baldness and stick with the polygon modelers. Things like gloves and pants will give you migraines if you try using NURBS. Just a friendly nugget of wisdom. :)

Speaking of clothes modeling, I finally bought a good video tutorial that shows the complete process. I've begun watching it and it's very clear and easy to follow. Once I'm familiar with the steps, you'll see a sample shirt. I'm really excited to finally create my own clothes for my figures.

And now for something completely different. Conten

Wow, over 1000 pageviews!

Since my last journal entry was well over a year ago, and I haven't posted any writing or anything else in that time, I think it's finally time to upload a couple of scraps of recent work.

My new creative focus is 3D art, something I've dabbled in but never got beyond modeling. Most of my practice came from non-organic objects. Due to recent inspiration from artists like Ken1173 and Lokai2000, the urge to create my own 3D anime scenes has surfaced.

So far I have a lightsaber and a shirt/skirt, both created in the NURBS modeler Rhinoceros.

More than just a category blurb

Awright, time to try and get a little bit more in gear with this whole journal thing.

Only two handfuls (including thumbs) of people currently watch me and of you I don't know how many read journals, especially if the content is rather boring as I'm sure mine is. :omfg: :shh:

I want to thank all of my watchers and favoriters for the views and say you're welcome for my favorites and watches to other deviants as well.

Writing is the main thing I would like to focus on, though erotica probably isn't the best choice without followers interested in it... But perhaps posting is the best way to draw new watchers in the first place. If anybody can point me in the direction of some writing clubs on dA please feel free to mention them. My favorite genre categories are anime fan fiction, general f&sf, and erotica.

Expect something written in the near future.
